Cowboy Hats in History

Cowboy Hats in History – Charlie 1 Horse

Cowboy Hats in History - Charlie 1 HorseIn the 70s a Native American hat maker became famous with his handmade hat bands made of natural materials of bones, skins, polished stones, furs, claws, and feathers. His original hats have his horse shoe stamp with a 1 in the middle. Those are highly collectable. No two were ever alike.

Charlie 1 Horse brand was founded in 1980, and manufactures a unique line of custom designed western hats. The now famous, front-decorated western hats and the genuine firebrand are unmistakably Charlie. The introduction of Charlie 1 Horse and its early success was based on very speacialized syles with limited availability. This strategy made th brand a sought-after exclusive.

While the designer western niche is Charlie 1 Horse’s core, the line has broadened over the years to offer other premium lines, that include traditional western styles, Wild West styles, and the custom Tripple XXX Fur Blend Collection.

The talent for trimming a hat with natural band materials dates back to the days of the Old West and the legend of the Indian Charlie 1 Horse. Charlie 1 Horse earned his reputation for restoring pride to worn-out hats.

Although Charlie 1 Horse gained recognition for his work in the mountains outside of Taos, New Mexico; his reputation spread over the midwest and western states. Fortunately, his skills and knowledge have been passed on to the equally skilled artisans who make Charlie 1 Horse hats today.
